World Water Day 2023 Why it is celebrated?

World Water Day is celebrated every year on March 22. 

The theme for World Water Day 2023 is - "Accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis." 

The main purpose of celebrating this day is to ensure the availability of clean and safe water in all developed countries and also to focus on the importance of water conservation.

The celebration of World Water Day was started at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in the year 1992.

Although 75% of the world is surrounded by water, but 97% of its water is salty sea water, the amount of potable water is only 3%.

The Umngot River of Meghalaya has got the status of the cleanest river in the country (India). The water is so clear that sometimes it seems like boat is floating on the glass.

Thames river (London) is said to be the cleanest river in the world, it is also known as the Ganga of London.
